After receiving the ban letter from James lawyer, foreign AI platforms quickly removed all real people

July 27th, US media 404 Media reporter Jason Koebler wrote an article reporting on the recent legal actions taken by Lakers forward James' lawyer team against the AI generation platform. Excerpts are as follows:

A tool that allows users to create NBA star AI videos and the creators of its Discord community said they received a letter of injunction from LeBron James' lawyers. This marks the first time a well-known public figure has taken legal action against an AI company because it allows AI images of its portraits to be generated without consent. This is also the first time we have seen celebrities taking legal action against involuntary but non-strictly pornographic AI-generated content, which is very common on Instagram and other social media.

In March, I reported on an AI technology called "Brainrot" that often became popular on Instagram. Many of the most popular BrainrotAI videos feature LeBron James and are made using a tool called InterlinkAI, which runs on a larger AI generation platform, FlickUp. In InterlinkAI's Discord channel, people learn how to make these videos with detailed guides, and some even explain in detail how to make James' videos. AI-generated videos produced by some highly-known creators on Instagram have attracted millions of views, including those of James and Stephen Curry. The videos include an AI-generated video of James watching Diddy sexually assaulting Curry in prison, a video of James being imagined as a homeless person, a video of James kneeling on the ground sticking out his tongue, and a video of James getting pregnant. At the end of June, the administrator of the InterlinkAIDiscord community told members that they decided to remove all "real person models" from the InterlinkAI platform. The

administrator posted a message on Discord. “Because we encountered legal issues involving a high-value basketball player, in order to avoid further complications, we chose to take proactive measures to completely remove all real portraits from the website,” the administrator wrote. “We know this may disappoint some users who like the realism in the content, but this move is to protect the future of the platform and allow us to focus on building a bigger cause.”

FlickUp founder Jason Stacks confirmed that the basketball player involved in the ban letter was James. "A few weeks ago, FlickUp received a letter of injunction from lawyer LeBron James, involving InterlinkAI, one of our creative platforms. Previously, we partnered with Interlink to promote an AI model based on LeBron James and several other iconic basketball players. Within 30 minutes after receiving the letter, FlickUp decided to remove all real people from InterlinkAI's software. Although generative AI is still in the 'west pioneer' stage in terms of copyright and intellectual property rights, FlickUp promises to be on the right side."

Instagram has removed at least three accounts that posted unauthorized James AI videos that have received millions of views. When 404Media asked Meta, the parent company of Instagram, whether it received a letter of ban from James, Meta declined to comment.
