Arenas: James needs Irving and Wade to solve the problem, he is terrible on one-on-one

Recently, former NBA player Gilbert Arenas talked about the Lakers' triangular offense on his podcast program:

Speaking of LeBron, there was a period when his team was not good enough to win, but he was making sacrifices for victory. I was like, you know, as a player, if I was going to win the championship – I was obviously the second-in-command on a championship team – I would want to play with LeBron because what he needed was exactly what I was good at. I am a one-on-one singles expert and I can respond. Yes, he needs someone to solve the problem alone on the offensive end.

McDy: Yes, so he needs Irving and Wade. But that's what I want to say. I think this is where he didn't technically grow up. I mean, in the triangular offensive system, his skills will grow, right? That way he will become a skilled player, because this system requires you to take over the game and everything else happening on the field at the last moment, and it gives you room and permission to operate.

I think he could have learned those footwork techniques and learned to play singles behind his back, because that was a technique he had not mastered. Do you understand what I mean? He could have mastered those.

Arenas: Yes, he could have mastered it. And the triangular offense will force you to hone your footwork skills. Yes, yes. And what he lacks is exactly this. Just like he's terrible in this regard as a one-on-one single player.
