NBA rumors: Insiders "don t rule out" the possibility of Kidd leaving the Mavericks to join the Knicks

ESPN's Tim McMahon said that even if it seems unlikely at the moment, he does not rule out the possibility of Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd joining the Knicks.
The New York Knicks are looking for a new head coach to replace the fired Tom Thibodeau, and NBA insider Mark Stan recently reported that Dallas Mavericks head coach and former Knicks player Jason Kidd has entered their focus. While Stan admits that he does not expect the Mavericks to allow such a transfer to happen, he does not completely rule out the possibility. ESPN's Tim MacMahon also has a deep understanding of Dallas, and he didn't "rule this possibility" in the latest episode of Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective.
Tim MacMahon said of the Knicks' idea of getting Jason Kidd from the Mavericks, "I won't rule out this possibility."
While MacMahon doesn't "know or think" Kidd wants to leave Dallas, he noted that the Mavericks coach does not agree with some of the team's recent moves. Here is a hypothetical Luca Doncic's deal, but McMahon actually mentioned the firing of long-time athletic trainer Casey Smith in 2023. The Knicks signed Smith, who just led the team’s medical team to an award-winning season.
Will Jason Kidd really leave the Mavericks and join the Knicks?
The possibility of Jason Kidd leaving the Mavericks to join the Knicks is still slim, but it is worth noting that mainstream journalists with connections to Dallas have not denied this possibility. Kidd is indeed associated with New York, playing in New York during his NBA career and then coaching Jaylen Brunson in Dallas. Kidd also coached Giannis Antetokounmpo with the Milwaukee Bucks, and some speculate whether the Knicks will chase Giannis this offseason.
Even with Doncic, the Mavericks' future remains bright, thanks to their miraculous wins of the NBA draft draw and their picks from Cooper Flag. Kyrie Irving will miss the early season due to injury, but the Dallas Mavericks can still form a good team, with Anthony Davis, Flagg and others able to fill Irving’s vacancy. The Mavericks have already stated that they will not trade the No. 1 pick.
But if Kidd is as absent-minded as before, the Dallas Mavericks and the New York Knicks might have trade talks on the coach. In the NBA, coaching trades are not common, but never say forever, especially after the Doncic incident.
