American media TheSteinLine reporter Jake Fischer talked about trade rumors about New Orleans Pelicans forward star Herb Jones in a recent show.

Although there has been some news in recent times that Jones may be sent away this summer, Fischer has basically confirmed that he believes that Jones has almost no possibility of being traded. Fischer said: I don't think Herbert Jones will be traded by the team this summer, and his contract is almost one of the best and most cost-effective contracts in the league, and New Orleans is also very clear about this. Despite some outrageous moves in New Orleans before, I still think that at least for a short period of time, they won't trade Herbert Jones.

In the NBA regular season last season, Jones played 20 games in 82 games, averaging 32.4 minutes per game, averaging 10.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.5 blocks, 1.8 turnovers and 3.3 fouls, with a shooting percentage of 43.6%, a three-point shooting percentage of 30.6%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 82.5%. Jones' playing time last season was very limited, and his stability on the offensive end was not particularly ideal. His feel outside the three-point line was also somewhat fluctuating. However, Jones showed quite good personal abilities in passing and supporting, and his contribution to the team on the defensive end and his influence on the game is obvious to all. He is the top defensive gate in the league. His defensive contribution is quite amazing. He has extremely outstanding personal defensive ability. He can undertake various defensive tasks. He can also defend players from multiple positions of his opponent. He even has a certain ability to protect the basket. He can simply rely on his own strength to support the team's defensive system. In July 2023, Jones reached a four-year, $53.82 million contract extension with the Pelicans. His salary for next season is $13.95 million and his salary for the 2026-27 season is $14.9 million. Considering Jones' personal ability, his contribution to the defensive end and his influence on the game, such a contract can definitely be regarded as a very cost-effective contract. If the Pelicans want to attack a good record in the next two seasons, retaining Jones is also of great importance for the team. Therefore, Fischer's statement is basically reasonable. Unless the Pelicans plan to play badly from next season, or they really receive a offer that they can't refuse, there is no reason for the Pelicans to send him away?
