5:15pm, 6 June 2025Basketball

Does anyone remember Patrick O'Brient? One of the worst No. 9 picks in NBA history.

Patrick O 'Bryant, Patrick O'Bryant, 7 feet tall (213cm), plays as center (C). He was born in Oscaloosa, a city in southern central Iowa, USA in June 1986. He was produced by Bradley University. He was selected by the Golden State Warriors with the ninth pick in the first round of the 2006 NBA Draft and entered the NBA. He played for three teams, the Warriors, the Celtics and the Raptors in his NBA career.

Patrick O'Brient has excellent athletic ability, soft touch, certain inside offensive skills, good small hook skills, certain support skills, broad vision, and able to pass the ball. His 2.28-meter-long arm span makes him an excellent rebounder and blocker, and has certain frame protection skills on the defensive end. However, his game was unstable, his strength and physical strength were insufficient, his style of play was weak, and his ability to fight was poor. Moreover, as a center, his style of playing was more like a space-type fourth position, with unclear sense of position, and most importantly, his training and game attitude was worrying, which led to his many delegated efforts as a lottery pick. In his four seasons of NBA career, Patrick O'Brient played 90 games in the regular season, starting in 3 of which, averaging 5.8 minutes per game, scoring 2.1 points, 1.4 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.2 steals, and blocking, failing to play in the playoffs. Although he performed poorly in the NBA, O'Brient ushered in his peak season with Dragon King Chris Bosh in his 2008-2009 season. He averaged 4.7 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per game, both of which set the highest in a single season in his career, and also scored some pretty good career records.

Local time in the United States, on April 8, 2009, in the Toronto Raptors' miserable loss to the Indiana Pacers 101:130 away game, Patrick O'Brient started for only 20 minutes. Although he graduated with 6 fouls, he made 8 of 11 shots, efficiently scoring the highest single-game 16 points and 7 rebounds in his NBA career, plus 1 block. On April 15, 2009, local time, in the Toronto Raptors' 109:98 away game against the Chicago Bulls, O'Brient started for only 27 minutes, scored 9 points, 1 steal and 3 blocks, and grabbed the 7 rebounds in a single game in the NBA career. On March 1, 2010, in the Toronto Raptors' loss to the Houston Rockets 92:116 away, O'Brient played for 9 minutes, scored 2 points and 3 rebounds, and sent out the highest 4 blocks in a single game in the NBA career. After the 2009-2011 season, Patrick O'Brient left the NBA and played in the CBA, NBA Development League, Puerto Rico, Greece, Taiwan Province and other leagues. In May 2019, he had the BIG3 League in the United States, and it has not been a long time since he reported it.
