Rockets Shepard training plan is released: 2 main practices, taking into account shooting and ball control, Xia Lian has shown

Jaylen Green was sent to the Phoenix Suns by the Rockets. The Rockets lacked a ball-holding point in the backcourt. Although Van Vreet, Shepard, Aaron Holiday, and even Tate can serve as the organizational guard, but without a double-athlete defender like Jaylen Green, the Rockets' backcourt strength has been greatly weakened.

After Whitmore was traded, the Rockets did not have many players available on the outside. When the Rockets have not yet introduced new defenders, they can only develop internal potential. For example, the 21-year-old Kentucky shooter Shepard can completely serve as the Rockets' point guard. Last season, under Uduka, Shepard often served as a shooting guard and was a shooter without the ball, but if he didn't hold the ball in his hand, his performance would be greatly reduced. After all, when he was in college, Shepard not only had a very high shooting percentage, but also his passing ability and offense ability were second to none. He was a defender who played with his brain and a standard double-aware guard. Although his defensive ability and lack of strength, this kind of guard with a very high ball quotient has always been valued by the Rockets.

Compared to Jaylen Green, who has a lower pill quotation, Shepard is obviously more favored by the Rockets and wants to focus on training. He plays the starting point guard for the Rockets in the summer league. He will hold the ball more next season and become Van Vreet's first substitute, which is the core point guard in the Rockets' second team. I believe Shepard can adapt well. In fact, the reason why Shepard performed very well in today's summer league is that he has gained some points, assists, blocks, steals and three-pointers because he has been conducting hard training this summer's offseason.

In an interview, Shepard also talked about the training program this summer. He said that the most important thing this summer is to stay in the strength room and practice strength hard, and he also needs to focus more on defense and physical confrontation. He needs to become stronger to adapt to the NBA-level physical confrontation intensity next season. Therefore, practicing defense well and improving one's strength and confrontation are the training focus of Shepard's offseason this summer. But Shepard also said that in addition to defending and improving strength, he also needs to maintain shooting and possession training.

But the Rockets need Shepard to defend well and improve his confrontational ability. These two points are his main training items. Ball control and shooting are actually elite level for Shepard. He doesn't need to train targetedly all the time. If he can improve his defense and improve his confrontational ability, he will be able to play the role of Rockets' substitute point guard next season, and he can even become the starting point guard of the Rockets after Van Vreet grows old and leaves the team in the future.

In fact, Shepard's ability to fight has been reflected in today's summer league, and even his steals and blocks have gained something. This is the result of more than a month of hard training. Of course, the intensity of the summer league is too low and there is no need for too much defense. We hope that Shepard, the new point guard, can perform in confrontation and defense in the regular season and playoffs next season.
