Starting from the Summer League, what is the hope of the Nets new army?

The 2025 summer league is not only a stage for young players to run-in, but also an opportunity for the reconstruction blueprint to begin to emerge. Looking back at the past few seasons, the Nets have gradually moved from a star-studded favorite to a rebuilding abyss. Durant, Irving, Harden and others left one after another, and the management also began to focus on accumulating draft picks, observing potential new stars, and cultivating future pillars. In the 2025 draft, the Nets have added many rookies such as Yegor Jamin, Nolan Traore, Ben Salav, Danny Wolf, etc., and the future of this team has begun to take shape. Referring to the first game of the Nets against the Thunder, the Nets lost 81-90, but judging from the content of the game, it does make people see some of the future directions of the Nets.
Below, I hope to discuss the performance of several key rookies in this game from the Nets' perspective, combining game observations and actual data, and see their possible opportunities in the future NBA arena.
Yegor Jamin is a big point guard in the first round of the Nets' draft. His advantage lies in his game vision and organizational pass-through vision. He was once known as the European version of Josh Giddy. He played in the summer league's debut for 23 minutes, scoring 8 points, 4 rebounds and 1 steal, making 7 of 3 shots and 2 of 5 three-pointers.
As the eighth pick in the first round, Jamin's performance in Xia Lian still did not fully fulfill his expectations. The game pace is too slow, the pass choice is relatively conservative, and the offensive aggression and decision-making speed is lacking as the main controller. Especially his scoring performance of zero in the first half shows his adaptability in the NBA environment. Although two three-pointers were slightly highlighted, the overall influence was still slightly insufficient.
For Jamin, the Nets should still regard it as a long-term investment, betting on his ball quotient and height advantages, but according to current observation, his ball possession stability and breakthrough creation have not met expectations. Although some people questioned his draft pick too high, they believed that if the explosive power and external stability cannot be supplemented in the future, he is likely to become a tasteless asset. This is undoubtedly an option for the role that will be regarded as the future master control in the early stage of the Nets' reconstruction, which is undoubtedly a high-risk option to be fulfilled. In contrast to Jamin is Traore, a point guard from France, who does not have an advantage in height and size, has a very fast first step of breakthrough and is very aggressive. In his debut game, he scored 26 minutes, with 13 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists, and the plus or negative value of the whole game was +1, making him the only rookie with a positive value among the four rookies.
Treoli's style of play is aggressive, good at breaking through quickly and causing damage, and has stable free throws; in addition, he is also good at passing the ball. He is not a monotonous point guard who can only score in the inside, but a new type of organizer who can make precise transmission choices in a short period of time. It is worth noting that his outside shooting is not stable enough. If he wants to serve as a starting point guard in the NBA in the future, three-pointers will inevitably become a key threshold.
When Jamin and Treola are on the court at the same time, the Nets can have two completely different rhythms of the field control source. If this stable and fast configuration can continue to develop in the future, they may have the opportunity to create a stable dual-control system. But in the short term, the coaching team still needs to be clear about their role positioning, otherwise when different rhythms interfere with each other, the overall efficiency will be reduced.
Salav is the Israeli defender selected by the Nets this year, and his role is more suitable for the connection section of the firepower scoring points. He played for about 16 minutes in his first game, scored only 3 points, made only 1 of 5 shots, and his overall shooting percentage was not high. But if you observe his running position carefully, you can still see his Sagittarius temperament.
The shooting is fast and the movement rhythm is stable, especially the performance when shooting at fixed-point catches. Although he did not make any achievements in his debut three-pointer, judging from the content of the game, he did not feel cold, but because he made too few moves and had not yet fully adjusted to the team's tactical system. Sarav, on the defensive end, also showed a certain level. Although he is not a top player in athletic ability, he knows how to stick and assist in defense, and will not lose his defense due to a sluggish offense. Stability is his biggest asset. If he can improve his three-point efficiency and breakthrough finishing skills, he will have a chance to become a NBA rotation-level shooter.
In the current context of the Nets' lack of stable firepower, if Sarav can establish stable shooting confidence and game rhythm in the Development League, he is likely to become a stable shooter in the substitute next year.
As for Danny Wolf, this is a player who becomes more suspicious the more he looks. His passing vision and high-level organization trance make people see a hint of Jokic, but if he watches all the games, his problem is still quite obvious. In the first match of the summer league, Wolf played for 20 minutes and scored only 4 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists. It seemed stable, but in fact, he was invisible most of the offensive end. He appeared many times at the top of the arc and stopped the ball and watched, hesitated to attack, and had a low willingness to take action. The game scene was conservative and limited. What we hope for is the value of a big engine on him, but the result is just that he is unable to idle, which leads to a termination of the team's offensive rhythm.
As far as possible, Wolf's lateral movement speed and confrontation intensity are insufficient, especially in high-intensity switching and conversion attacks, which are very easy to be thrown away. Organizational transmission capabilities are worthy of recognition, but this part of the advantage is based on a slow pace, rather than the fast pace of the mainstream NBA. What's even more fatal is that he lacks the threat from the outside and cannot steadily open up space, which causes his opponent to shrink with confidence every time he holds the ball, which is an extremely fatal flaw for the modern center.
Simply put, Wolf is not a potential new star at this stage, but a test piece with theory greater than practicality. He needs to continue training in the Development League, and once early development fails, his NBA career may be much shorter than we think.
In addition to several key rookies, the Nets have also sent many senior Development League players and some free agents who have not yet obtained guaranteed contracts in the summer. Among them, Drew Tim and Tosan Efbwan performed the most.
Tim played 30 minutes, scored a game-high 22 points, grabbed 9 rebounds, showing excellent low-post finishing ability and footsteps at the basket. Although the outside feel is limited, the penalty area confrontation and finishing skills are quite mature, which is enough to show the value of four years of NCAA field experience. If you can show more mobility and basket protection value on the defensive end, you should have a chance in the future.
Tosan is good at defense and frontcourt vitality. He contributed 5 points and 3 rebounds in 12 minutes of the game. Although his personal data is not eye-catching, his several backup defense and fast break follow-ups are still impressive. If the outside line can be improved and the breakthrough is stable, it should be a regular customer on the list of two-way contracts in the future.
In contrast, the value of these role players lies in making up for the shortcomings of the main rookies and providing stable and intense supplements in the overall offensive and defensive rhythm.
Judging from the content of the game, although the Nets lost their debut in the summer league, the whole team still showed strong overall potential. The Nets' shooting percentage is 39.1%, the three-point shooting percentage is 25%, and the team's mistakes are as high as 21, allowing the opponent to score 24 points. These contents are enough to illustrate the problem. The team still has considerable room for improvement in both ball control and external firepower.
Further observe the real data of the core rookie: Jamin made 2 of 5 three-pointers, with a 40% shooting percentage, showing the initial threat from the outside; although Treola only made one three-pointer, he scored multiple free throws, and had a clear advantage in breakthrough destructive power.
From the perspective of combining data and game screen, we have a starting foundation in field control stability, spatial advantages, frontcourt transmission, etc., but it has not yet been connected to the whole. The coaching team also needs to establish a stable system in the next summer's training, so that every rookie can find the best space to play.
For Xia Lian, losing is not a bad thing, Xia Lian is mainly about running-in and learning. What is really important is that this game allows people to see that the Nets are trying a new team-building direction, focusing on multiple rookies with field control and organizational capabilities, and combining with developable frontcourt transmission points and shooters, a modern lineup with strong rhythm and technical flow orientation is formed.
Yegor Jamin is the main core of the offensive rhythm, Treola is the energy source for breaking through and killing, and Sarav has the opportunity to become a stable external scoring point. Even if the game has flawed performance, these parts are gradually pieced together a team with a future system.
Unlike many teams, the Nets' reconstruction does not start with star players, but with the growth of rookies. This is a brand new Nets, with a promising future and worth waiting patiently.
