Before the official start of the regular season, each team must streamline their lineup, and the same is true for the Lakers. Especially during this year's preseason, the Lakers only achieved one victory. The performance of many substitute players was disappointing, and the management must have noticed it.

Therefore, the season is about to begin, and the Lakers officially announced the layoff of four players. In addition to RJ Davis, Matthew Leonis and Anton Watson, former Rockets guard Geneson Williams is also out. These four players need to find jobs again, either in the Development League or in other overseas leagues. As for the 21-year-old former first-round pick Nick Smith Jr., because he previously received a two-way contract, even if his preseason performance is poor, he is temporarily safe.

Except for Anton Watson, the other three players here are all guards. Considering the Lakers' position, the number of reserves is relatively large, and their performance is not very good, so it is reasonable for them to be abandoned. However, RJ Davis was laid off, which made many Lakers fans feel pity, because his preseason performance was okay, scoring in double figures several times. You must know that in college, he showed good scoring ability. There are some differences for other players, especially Mathieu Leonis. He has not played at all during the entire preseason and looks like he is just making up the numbers.

Jinarson Williams once played for the Trail Blazers and Rockets. In low-end games with little intensity, he once showed his super scoring ability. However, in this year's summer league and preseason, Geneason Williams' performance did not rise but fell, which caused him to be abandoned continuously. Since he is no longer particularly young, it may not be easy for Geneason Williams to return to the NBA.

Nick Smith Jr. escaped. This former first-round pick was given up by the Hornets this summer. The Lakers offered Nick Smith Jr. a two-way contract, mainly because they were optimistic about the latter's outside shooting ability. However, Nick Smith Jr.'s overall performance in the preseason was actually relatively poor. However, because he has a two-way contract, it is very convenient and flexible to handle later, so the Lakers decided to give Nick Smith Jr. some more time and opportunities. It can be seen that although this time we are lucky to have Nick Smith Jr. successfully stay, he is in danger at any time. If Nick Smith Jr. still cannot provide any support by the time the regular season starts, he will be the next player to be laid off.
