Bild: New York Red Bulls have given up on Werner, Los Angeles may be his new choice

Hupu News on November 19th Timo Werner’s contract with RB Leipzig actually does not expire until the summer of 2026. But the 29-year-old player has been completely excluded from the game roster! For weeks, Leipzig's all-time leading scorer (113 goals) was not part of the plans of head coach Ole Werner (37 years old).

The striker himself is aware of this. As early as mid-October, Bild exclusively reported that Werner planned to leave the team in the winter. His preferred destination is Major League Soccer. This summer, Leipzig's sister club New York Red Bulls want to sign Leipzig's highest-paid player (annual salary of 10 million euros). A two-and-a-half-year contract is already in place. But in the end the deal fell through - due to Werner's salary demands.

"He has a great name and I think the fans are going to love him," New York athletic director Julian De Guzman told "The Athletic." He added: "The opportunity was there, but I don't think we were 100 percent sure it was the right choice for New York. That's why we didn't fully commit." For Werner, this is undoubtedly a heavy blow: he may not get a second chance. New York had a disappointing season last season, failing to make the playoffs and with head coach Sandro Schwartz departing, and the team is looking to shake up its roster.

De Guzman emphasized: "I don't want to sign a 'well-known player' at all. I just want someone who can help the team improve."

The reason Werner cannot join is that the New York Red Bulls already have two experienced forwards, Emil Forsberg (34 years old) and Choupo-Moting (36 years old), both of whose contracts do not expire until the end of 2026. De Guzman ruled out the possibility of bringing in a third striker.

He explained: "Schupo and Emile are both All-Star players, they are very good. Will we sign another Schupo or Emile? No. But we will sign a player who can bring changes, this is a must."

Obviously, Werner also realizes this. The former Germany national team star (who has 57 caps for his country) is reportedly considering other US metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles.
