July 15 ESPN reported that Newcastle is close to signing Frankfurt striker Ekitic for 80 million euros.

Currently, Ekitic's agent Ali Bharat is finalizing the final details in Newcastle. The French striker's joining will break the club's transfer record when he introduced Alexander Isak for 70 million euros three years ago. Ekitic has agreed to the five-year personal terms and is ready to undergo a medical examination. His former club, Paris Saint-Germain, will receive 20% of the transfer fee.

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has been looking for a striker who can partner with Isaac, and he believes Ekitic will be the ideal partner for Swedish stars. Sources confirmed to ESPN that the signing does not mean that Isaac will leave the club. In the 2024-25 season, Ekitic performed well in Germany, making 48 appearances in all games, contributing 22 goals and 12 assists. He formed a great partnership with Mamush until the latter moved to Manchester City in January.

Ekitic has not been drafted into the adult national team by Deschamps, despite his outstanding performance in the French U21 national team. Ekitic hopes that playing for Newcastle in the Premier League and in the Champions League will help him realize his national team dream as soon as possible.
