Manchester United joins for free transfer goals between Barcelona and Real Madrid

Manchester United has reportedly joined the squad of suitors interested in snapping up Jonathan Ta's contract with Leverkusen when it expires this summer.

Ta became one of the most dominant centre-backs in the world during Bayer Leverkusen's Bundesliga title last season, and has since become one of the hottest free agents after deciding to terminate the existing contract.

Barcelona has long been considered Tah's most likely destination, with various reports at the beginning of the season claiming a deal has been reached. However, the club's strict financial restrictions ensure that nothing has been signed, opening the door to other interested parties.

Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in the 29-year-old defender, and Manchester United is now called a "contender" by Sky Sports News. Manchester United is expected to find a new central defender in the market this summer. Both Joni Evans and Victor Lindelof will expire in June, while Harry Maguire's future remains uncertain.

Real Madrid reportedly had a chance to sign Tah, but was rejected. This position could change dramatically if Leverkuen coach Xavi Alonso takes over the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Ta never shy away from praising Alonso’s influence, describing Alonso as “a coach who is very good in both tactical and personal terms.” "Havi Alonso took me to the next level," the centre-back continued. "I'm even more unhappy now, because I always have my opponent in my sight."

This kind of relationship is mutual. Alonso previously praised Tah as "one of the best defenders in the world." “I’m really happy for him because he deserves all the compliments and all the good moments he’s been through,” the proud coach said with a smile. Sky Sports in Germany reported that Bayern Munich is "seriously considering" a deal with Towers, and negotiations are said to be "in progress". Last summer, the record Bundesliga champions were keen to reach a deal with Leverkusen. But the competition for his signature rights is already very fierce.
