September 18th, British media Mirror reported that UEFA is considering launching an investigation after an Atletico Madrid staff member was captured on camera and suspected of spitting at Liverpool fans. The event took place at the end of the Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid match.
Atletico Madrid coach Simeone had a fierce quarrel with a fan in the main stands. He claimed that he had been abused throughout the game and responded angrily. Simeone was then shown a red card by referee Mariani and was blocked by several stadium administrators and his staff.
According to reports, video clips shared by fans at the bottom of the main stand on social media showed that an Atletico Madrid staff member was suspected of spitting at the group of fans closest to the area where the incident occurred. UEFA is currently considering whether to investigate the matter in depth. Its disciplinary committee will review the match report (including match supervision and referee reports) before deciding on the follow-up plan.
