Italian wing star will join Real Madrid next season, and the Jazz holds his NBA signing rights?

5:18am, 27 July 2025Basketball

The Spanish League giant Real Madrid officially announced that the team has completed the signing with Italian wing star Gabriele Procida, who received a three-year contract from Real Madrid.

Prochda was born in July 2002. He just turned 23 years old, 198cm tall and weighed 87kg. He is the wing star selected by the Detroit Pistons in the 36th pick in the second round in the 2022 NBA Draft. In a deal last February, the Pistons sent his NBA signing rights to the Utah Jazz. Since being selected by the Pistons, Procida has been playing for Bundesliga powerhouse Alba Berlin. He is also an important rotation player in the team. His playing time and overall performance have also been improving during each season.

In the Serie A last season, Procida made a total of 21 appearances, averaging 18 minutes, averaging 7.3 points, 2 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.2 blocks, and 0.8 turnovers and 1.8 fouls. His shooting percentage was 38.6%, a three-point shooting percentage of 27.9%, and a free throw shooting percentage of 69.8%. In the Champions League last season, Prochida made a total of 26 appearances, averaging 20.5 minutes per game, with averaging 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.7 steals and 0.3 blocks, and 1.2 turnovers and 1.8 fouls. His shooting percentage was 43.9%, his three-point shooting percentage was 21.9%, and his free throw shooting percentage was 78.6%. Although Prochda has been an important rotation player in Alba Berlin in the past few seasons, his overall performance is not particularly outstanding. His offensive efficiency in the Serie A last season was very average, his scoring ability was not ideal, and his contribution to the defensive end was not outstanding. In the Champions League, Procida's performance is much better than his Serie A, but it is not a particularly outstanding level. Prochida is a player with certain potential, and he is indeed able to undertake certain tasks on the offensive end, but as a wing player, his outside shooting percentage has been a mess in these seasons and has not achieved any substantial improvement, which is a bit worrying.

According to European basketball media BasketNews reporter Donatas Urbanas, Procida's contract with Real Madrid includes the NBA jump options for 2026 and 2027, which means he still hopes to launch an impact on the NBA in the future. Given Prochida's age, his performance at Real Madrid next season may also largely determine his future in the NBA, and even determine whether he can appear in the NBA in the future. I don't know if he can show enough competitiveness in Real Madrid next season and attract the attention of the Jazz or other NBA teams.
