Thunder head coach Mark Dagnott has been severely criticized for several decisions to lose to the Pacers in the first game of the Thunder.
Oklahoma City Thunder failed to win the first NBA Finals game and ended up losing to the Indiana Pacers 110-111. The Thunder dominate the entire game and didn't move until the last few seconds of the game. Head coach Mark Dygenot made some decisions that could change the outcome of the game near the end of the game, such as adopting a small roster and having both Chet Homgren and Isaiah Haltenstein sit on the bench.
This caused them to suffer losses and the rebound was 39-56. After the game, many people pointed out that this decision was the culprit of the Thunder's loss.
One user wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "Mark Degnott's biggest regret may be the cancellation of big players, especially Chet Holmegren. During the period when both Holmegren and Haltenstein left the court in the fourth quarter, the Thunders netted 9 points."
Another user wrote: "Mark Degnott always wanted to be clever and thought he could win every game. Once the Thunder activated the small guard lineup, the Pacers would start attacking with all their might. What the hell is he thinking? Let Chet or Ihart play. What a weirdo."
Another decision that many people can't understand is to let Carson Wallace enter the starting lineup.
"Carson Wallace is a good role player, but what's going on with Mark Dagnott's over-obsession with him? He doesn't need to play that much time, and they have five better players than him, and he certainly doesn't need to do his best at the critical moment," one user wrote.
It will be interesting to see what adjustments Daigout will make in the second game.
Mark Degnott shared his thoughts on the Thunder's first game loss
After losing to the Thunder, Degnott shared his views on the game.
"Our biggest experience is understanding that every game is a new game," said Dagnott. "The most important game in the series is always the next game, no matter what the result is. We wanted to win tonight, but tonight was a starting point, not a finishing point." The Thunder made 19 turnovers against the Pacers in the first half, but they were only 12 points ahead. The problem is that they gave the Pacers too much room to breathe, and eventually they repeated the whole playoff routine.
Now, the Thunder must make the necessary adjustments to win the series.
