According to comprehensive reports from multiple media, Arsenal is about to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyökeres, and the two sides have reached an agreement on the transfer fee. The Swedish striker has become the number one target on the Gunners' list of signings this summer.
Because of missing the championship trophy for the fifth consecutive season, Arteta's team urgently needs to introduce an efficient shooter on the front line. And Giokelez is their ideal candidate. It is reported that Arsenal has finalized a transfer fee of about £59 million with Sporting Lisbon, and the players are expected to officially join after completing the physical examination. Personal terms are not expected to be a barrier.
Since joining Sporting Lisbon in 2023, Giokelez has quickly grown into one of the hottest centers in European football. He scored an astonishing 96 goals in 101 games and scored his 53rd goal in the just-concluded season, helping the team beat Victoria 2-0 to secure the Portuguese Premier League title this season.
In addition, Giokelez also leads the Portuguese top league in key figures such as shooting, creating goals, and advancing distance. His success and opportunities also ranked third and fourth respectively, showing comprehensive offensive ability.
It is worth mentioning that Manchester United also showed strong interest in Giokelez, especially during Ruben Amorin coaching Sporting Lisbon, where he performed amazing performances many times. However, although Giokelez's contract contains a termination clause of up to 100 million euros (about £84.1 million), Sporting Lisbon is willing to accept offers below that amount to facilitate players to enter the top European leagues.
In addition to being the top scorer of the Portuguese Super League for two consecutive seasons, Giokelez's professional attitude and growth potential have also been widely recognized. For Arsenal, if they can successfully sign this all-round center, it will undoubtedly be a major reinforcement for them on the road to winning the championship.
As the transfer is close to completion, gun fans may soon be able to welcome the powerful forward's official debut.
