#Mickel Arteta said that #Arsenal will work hard to reverse the situation of falling behind 0-1 in the first leg in the second round of the #Champions League semi-finals with "angry, resentment, frustration" and "the discomfort in the belly".
For Arsenal supporters who went to Paris on Wednesday, it was a place where they lost the 2006 Champions League final, and it felt bad to think of it.
Arsenal has not scored in its last seven semi-finals (including all events) (five losses and two draws).
But #PSG also has its own Champions League nightmare and has also set its own collapse record. The outcome of this game is still unpredictable.
Thomas Patte's return to Arsenal midfield could be a decisive role, and it is also crucial to recover from #Ottoman Dembele, who has only started training on Monday.
The next is a tactical contest, with #Luis Enrique having the upper hand in the first leg, but thanks to Mikel Arteta's adjustment in midfield, perhaps this contest will develop in a favorable direction in Arsenal.
Overcoming tension and historical trauma, Arsenal supporters have reason to feel optimistic. To be precise, there are four reasons.
1. Maintain the pressing intensity of Arteta's 4-2-3-1 formation that was used in the first round midfield adjustment
For those pessimistic fans, there is good news: what Arsenal needs to do first can be classified as "continue the past strategy." That is, the last 70 minutes, not the first 20 minutes.
In the first 20 minutes of the Emirates Stadium, Paris Saint-Germain completely suppressed Arsenal, and their advancement in the midfield was like no one else. During this period, Paris Saint-Germain had a possession rate of up to 77%, and wave after wave of offensives suppressed the home team in the backcourt.
Enrique's initial formation put Arsenal's 4-4-2 formation into chaos. Fabian Ruiz and Joao Neves were in the front, suppressing Declan Rice and Mikel Merino, which allowed Ottoman Dembele to retreat from the front and become a libero in the midfield.
Whenever Arsenal's double midfielder tries to mark Dembele, one of the two high-ranking No. 8 players is always in an unmarked state.
In this example, as shown in the Match Day show, when Arsenal initially set up in a 4-4-2 formation, Ruiz and Neves were both unmarked between the two lines
On Match Day show, commentator Stephen Warnock explained that Arsenal's Bukayo Saka had prematurely left the 4-4-2 formation, which allowed Paris Saint-Germain to open a gap on the left.
So Arteta adjusted the formation to 4-2-3-1, as shown in the figure below, and removed Martin Odgao from the front line and placed it in the midfield to mark Vitinia.
Arsenal now has one more player in the midfield, able to deal with the clever shifts between Vitinia, Neves and Ruiz, and the central defender is more active in forwarding to intercept Dembele, which makes Paris Saint-Germain unable to dominate.
20 minutes into the opening game, Arteta adjusted Arsenal's formation to 4-2-3-1. Odegao is marking Vitina, and each of the Arsenal midfield fives has to mark one player, thus consolidating the midfield's confidence, Arsenal's team's success in stealing in the midfield, gradually gaining an advantage, allowing the forward to gain more opportunities for possession. From the 21st to the 95th minute, Arsenal had a possession rate of 55%, surpassing Paris Saint-Germain 10-7 shots.
Patte's return should help the team do this again and will do better. He probably had sensed the danger last week to stop Dembele's winning goal, and he should be able to mark Paris Saint-Germain's midfielder smarter than Merino.
But everyone should pay attention to the key showdown of this game: Odegao is against Vitinia, who is the metronome and organizer of Enrique's smooth pass to control football.
Vitinia is second only to Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich in five major European leagues, ranking second in 90 minutes.
Pertain Vitinia, Paris Saint-Germain may be difficult to achieve.
Whether it is Rice or Merino, they should move to defend his
2 before Dembele scored in the 4th minute. Let Odega retreat and control the rhythm of the game with Saka
In the 4-2-3-1 formation, Arsenal should be able to be evenly matched with Paris Saint-Germain, which can solve many problems immediately and make both sides more balanced on the scene. On this basis, Arteta can turn its attention to how Arsenal can better play the role of #Ordgao when taking the ball.
The Norwegian player has been criticized by some fans for his poor performance in major matches.
Arteta said after the first leg: "We have a special issue, which was corrected 15 to 20 minutes later. We kept this for the rest of the game, and I think it turned the game around."
When asked further what he meant, Arteta told reporters that it was "a problem that happened when we were in possession", adding: "At a certain moment, you didn't have a chance to show up and they decided to withdraw all the midfielders, and you're hard to deal with it."
Arteta might refer to Odegaux's failure to "receive" when he was in possession of the ball, and he touched the ball only three times in the first 20 minutes..
As follows, in the 11th minute, Odegao disappeared, forcing William Saliba and David Raya to exchange passes twice, and then Paris Saint-Germain won the ball:
Odegao was in a high position, away from the goal, making Saliba (when possessing the ball) unable to pass forward
As the game progressed, Odegao's performance became more and more outstanding, helping Arsenal advance in three areas, but by his high standards, his influence was still limited.
He only 10 of his 30 passes forward for more than one yard.
Ordgau's pass chart in the first leg against Paris Saint-Germain - many of his passes are horizontal
The solution is to let Ordgauguin go back a little.
The Arsenal captain was like a fish when allowed to take the ball on the right side of the midfield. He first felt the ball and then passed and cooperated with his teammates.
Please note the difference between the hot zone map of Odegaux in Paris Saint-Germain's first leg and the hot zone map of him in Arsenal's 7-1 victory over Eindhoven (which is generally considered the best performance of the Norwegian player this season):
{Odegaux's average activity area against Paris is higher than the front end of the game
Arteta needs to make Odegaux's position further back so that he can control the rhythm by getting rid of the pressing shot, which not only allows Arsenal to avoid being pressed, but also cooperate more smoothly with Saka.
3. Show courage and offensiveness in the second half like Villa, launching a fierce attack on his opponent
This is all Arteta can learn from the first leg.
He should have looked at Aston Villa's outstanding performance in the quarterfinals over the next week - when they beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-2 but lost 4-5.
"I don't think my team has been suppressed by another team in this way," said Luis Enrique, "but this opponent has to take risks because they are about to be eliminated. Their offense is very strong."
This is what Arsenal needs to do.
Vera's sense of urgency, directness and fearlessness put Paris Saint-Germain in chaos. Perhaps because of the shadow of past collapse, they gradually fell into a passive position and were eventually suppressed by Morgan Rodgers' dribbling and Marcus Rashford's speed.
We have already talked about how Arsenal can curb Paris Saint-Germain and take control of the situation.
If they dare to take risks while possessing the ball, they can follow Villa and make their opponents dizzy.
Their strategic approach to achieving this is Miles Lewis-Skeley.
He was once a key player in the game last week when he started to take possession and bypassed Ashraf Hakimi to open up the field.
Figure 1: Lewis Skelly's reverse running attracted Hakimi
Figure 2: Once turned, Arsenal's left-back pushed forward and passed the ball to Martinelli, who was able to insert from behind. Hakimi was in a dilemma between marking Gabriel Martinelli and Lewis Skelly, who made the return of the defense, and might find himself unable to do so again, especially if Rice - who had to get in the way with Patty's return - could create chaos by dribbling like Villa.
4. Transform adventurous football style into set-piece advantage
If all of the above goes as planned, Arsenal should get more free kicks and corners than in the first leg. This is still their best way to score in Paris.
Arsenal scored 14 goals in the Premier League this season, with the expected number of goals (xG) for set pieces reaching 15.91, a figure that no one can match in the top five European leagues.
Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain has conceded 10 goals in the Ligue 1 (6 of which come from corners), accounting for 30.35% of its total conceded goals. This ratio is far ahead in the French league and ranks sixth among the top five European leagues.
Enrique's team had problems with corner kick defense on both ends of the offense and defense. Before the first leg, people were talking about this huge gap, but Arsenal only won three corner kicks and six free kicks in Paris Saint-Germain's half.
If Arteta's tactical arrangement is right, these numbers will rise, creating the kind of set pieces that Arsenal has been happy to see in the past few years.
The above are the four-point tactical routes for achieving brilliant victory in Paris.
Used a 4-2-3-1 formation to curb Paris Saint-Germain's midfield rotation; allowed Odegao to participate in the game and control the situation; took bold risks when controlling the ball and made full use of set pieces opportunities.
