July 3rd Argentine star Di Maria updated social media. His contract with Benfica expired and he joined Rosario Central. He just posted a long article to say goodbye to Europe.
Di Maria: It's time for me to go home today, and my career in Europe is over. Many years have passed, I have gone through many clubs, full of countless unforgettable experiences.
I spent 18 years in Europe, where I not only enjoyed life in a beautiful city, but also fortunately worked in a great club, met many beautiful people, and gained friends that will always be treasured in my heart. Every incredible moment I experienced made me who I am today. Of course, those setbacks, crying, anger, standing up and moving forward undoubtedly shaped my football career and personal growth.
I would like to thank every club I have ever played for for everything that has done for me—Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus—for helping me grow as a player and as a person. At every club, I have the honor of meeting excellent teammates and staff (chefs, equipment administrators, physiotherapists, team doctors, and all those who work silently and tirelessly to help us) that I will never forget.
When I first arrived in 2007, I was still very young, and with my parents and sisters, I was filled with fear and uncertainty. But gradually, I grew up and matured. Today, I am surrounded by their love, as well as the love of my wife and daughters.
Thank you very much for Portugal, Spain, England, France and Italy for opening your doors to me.
Goodbye,
Angel.
