OFFICIAL: Rummenigge is awarded a personal award by the Bavarian governor for his contribution to German football

According to Bayern’s official website on October 10, the Governor of Bavaria personally awarded Rummenigge a personal award.

Long-time Bayern Munich board chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge once again received a special honor: he was awarded a personal award by Bavarian Governor Markus Söder.

Söder said: "Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is an extraordinary person both on and off the field. He has led Bayern to new heights and had an important impact on the national team."

Söder added that in difficult moments, people can rely on Rummenigge. Together with Franz Beckenbauer and Uli Hoeness, Rummenigge built Bayern into a world-class brand.

"He represents internationalization, networking, sovereignty and vision, and together with Uli Hoeness, they are still a dream team to this day. This has a huge influence on the whole of Bavaria and the wider region." Söder also joked that although Rummenigge was born in Westphalia, "he definitely has Bavarian genes."

Karl-Heinz Rummenigge played more than 300 Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich from 1974 to 1984, scoring 162 goals. As a striker, he won numerous titles with the club, including two German League titles, two German Cups and two European Champions Cups. He also won two World Cup runners-up and the 1980 European Championship with the German national team. In 1981, he was named "European Footballer of the Year".

After retiring, Rummenigge held key leadership positions at Bayern Munich, serving as vice chairman from 1991 to 2002, and then as chairman of the board of directors in 2021. During this period, the club achieved its greatest success in its history.
