Morgan Rodgers became Arsenal's signing target after a stunning season in Villa. The midfielder scored 14 goals and assisted 13 times in various competitions, including a hat-trick against the Celtics in the Champions League. His outstanding performance at Villa made him the England national team and made his debut against Greece in November last year, while also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Year Award. Rodgers' performance in Villa attracted the attention of Arsenal coach Arteta. After winning the second place in three consecutive Premier League runners-up, Arteta is eager to lead the team through the bottleneck and win its first league title since 2004.

The striker has been considered as Arsenal's primary target for signings, and both Yorke and Cesco are closely linked to the transfer Emirates Stadium. Although Espanyol's termination fee is as high as £51 million, Arteta seems to be eager to further strengthen its midfield strength. Igor Pashao of Feyenoord is also on the list, and he may be a cheaper alternative to Rogers. Bayern Munich's Sane and Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams are also on Arteta's shortlist. Arsenal is said to have had a conversation with Nico Williams and Sane's agents. Sane's current contract with Bayern Munich has expired, but he may ask for an expensive salary package.

Nico Williams has a termination clause of £42 million, but he expects to require a salary of more than £250,000 per week. Rodgers had previously said he was satisfied with his life in Villa and won the club’s Young Player of the Year Award.
