Post: Villa’s new transfer director Olabe gets work permit to replace Monchi in preparation for winter window

On November 22, the Post reported that Aston Villa transfer director Roberto Orabe officially started his new role at the Premier League club after receiving a work permit.

The Spaniard was appointed as "President of Football Operations" nearly two months ago to take over Monchi's position, but he has not been able to officially take office due to waiting for permission. Now, the Daily Mail understands Olabe has been given the green light, meaning he will be available in time for the January transfer window.

It is unclear how much room Villa have to operate in this winter transfer window. The club operated under strict financial restrictions during the summer transfer period, paying only two players transfer fees, goalkeeper Marco Bizot and attacker Guisan. Meanwhile, Victor Lindelof joined on a free transfer, while Sancho and Harvey Elliott joined on loan.

Liverpool and Villa are discussing possible solutions regarding Elliott. The 22-year-old has made just two starts in all competitions and has not featured since October 2. Although Elliott cannot play for another club this season due to FIFA rules as he has already represented Villa and Liverpool, a return to Anfield could still be possible.

Although Sancho has played more games than Elliott, the forward, on loan from Manchester United, has yet to start in the Premier League and has only made four substitute appearances. There are reports that a number of clubs in Turkey are interested in bringing in Sancho in January, but it is unclear whether his loan deal would allow for this.
