On August 6, 2025, according to well-known transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Saudi giant Riyadh Crescent has reached a principled agreement with Liverpool on the transfer of Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez. This heavy deal is expected to be officially completed in this summer's transfer window.

At present, Riyadh Crescent will negotiate with Nunez himself on details such as personal treatment, including salary and bonuses. Romano revealed: "The final decision will be made in the short term. Nunes is the goal that coach Simeone Inzaghi is very eager to introduce. He hopes that the striker can enhance the team's competitiveness in the capital Riyadh."

According to British media, Nunes' transfer fee will be no less than 75 million euros. This means that Liverpool will recover all the costs of signing the Uruguay international from Benfica in 2022.

For Nunes, transferring to Saudi Arabia is the most realistic way out at present. He gradually marginalized at Liverpool due to his failure to enter the future plans of new coach Aln Slott, and other top European clubs have no intention of paying high transfer fees for a player with a big ups and downs.

Nuñez, 26, possesses excellent speed and foot skills, but always lacks stable goal efficiency, which limits his continued flash in the competitive Premier League arena. In the 2024/25 season, he served as a substitute many times and scored only 8 goals in the Premier League. Even in his best season after joining Liverpool, he only scored 11 goals, and his performance was far from reaching his super-season in Portugal.

This time he switched to the Saudi professional league, Nunes is expected to regain confidence in an environment with relatively low competitive pressure and regain his former sense of goal. Riyadh Crescent also hopes that his joining can further enhance the team's forward strength and continue to expand its influence in Asian and even world football.
