September 5th Scottish captain Robertson was interviewed by local media, and during which he talked about his feelings about losing his friend Jota.
Liverpool striker Jota was tragically killed in a car accident in July, and Robertson said: "When this happens, no one cares about football." He added: "It's a huge blow to all of us, especially to his family. It also makes us realize what really matters in life - spending time with our family and being with our children because you never know what will happen in the future."
Although Robertson's starting position is no longer solid, he chose to stay at Anfield and explained that as an experienced player, he feels responsible for helping other teammates. "This is the hardest thing we have ever experienced. It is very difficult for me to lose a close friend. It may be a pain we can never overcome, but we will keep this memory with us. He will always live in our hearts." Robertson said that he had made the decision to stay before the tragedy and knew that the club needed him. "I know I am one of the leaders of the team, and now I am appointed vice captain. This season will be very difficult."
"We have experienced many difficult moments, such as attending the funeral of our teammates, which are unimaginable. The leaders of the locker room have a huge responsibility to not only help within the team, but also to support Diogo's family through this extremely difficult period."
"Although it's not easy, over time, maybe we can relieve some of the pain a little. As leaders, we need to guide everyone through this difficult period."
