TA: Newcastle is unwilling to pay a premium for Visa, and thinks Ramos, Samu and others are too expensive

8:55am, 20 August 2025Football

Hupu August 19th News TheAthleticUK ace reporter David Ornstein led the weekly report.

Newcastle part, if Isaac doesn't leave and Newcastle adds another striker, is this a good transfer window?

Yes, even considering the many twists and turns in the transfer process, there are strong arguments that they will do so.

Obviously, both possibilities need to be realized in the next two weeks - Isaac has not changed his position of determination to leave by September 1, while Callum Wilson's replacement is not yet here, and the Yoan Visa deal is much more complicated than some would have expected.

Although Wilson's departure and Anthony Gordon's recent dominance in the front line, it seems that Newcastle only has a forward buy at the moment.

Will Osula and Sean Neff are not ready to play in the Premier League, so they still have a long way to go.

If Visa or other centers join, Newcastle United will complete a smart deal (but it should be noted that no one knows exactly what Isaac will become with Newcastle after the transfer window ends).

What are their positions/players?

Newcastle United is still actively seeking at least one new player, and maybe even more, with the focus on bringing in a forward (and maybe two if Isaac leaves).

Visa remains their primary goal to succeed Wilson, but negotiations have been complicated and things have hardly changed over the past three weeks. Brentford hopes to find a replacement before allowing Visa to leave, and despite signing Dango Ouatara, he appears to be Brian Mbemo's successor.

Newcastle United have been patient because they know Visa is eager to join – he did not represent Brentford in Nottingham Forest, which has a surprising similarity to the situation in Isaac – but they can’t wait indefinitely.

Previously, the two clubs had a big difference in valuation, and although Howe appreciated Visa, Newcastle United would not pay too much for a 28-year-old player.

Paris Saint-Germain's Ramos was also considered, but due to potential transfer fees and his current salary, it is unlikely to be achieved unless Isaac leaves.

Samu Aghova of Porto was also discussed, but he is worth a lot of money.

Oly Watkins is another player Howe is optimistic, but Newcastle United has signed Ramsey, which has helped Villa relieve financial problems and is unlikely to help direct competitors anymore, especially given the value of the England striker (and he is 29 years old).

In terms of midfield, Newcastle United has been paying attention to Inter Milan's David Flatsi, but now they have signed Ramsey, and despite new signing links, the possibility of a transfer is slim.

Club is focusing all its energy on the center market, but the players in this market are scarce, expensive and extremely competitive.
