Sources confirmed to ESPN that the New York Knicks requested permission to talk to Houston Rockets coach Ime Uduka and Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch about their open coaching work, but were both turned down. The Knicks can also request permission from other current head coaches.

Udukaka and Finch both spent a successful season on their respective teams. The Rockets ended their four-year missed playoffs and entered the playoffs with the No. 2 seed in the West, while the Wolves entered the Western Conference Finals for the second time in a row.

New York fired Tom Thibodeau last week, an unexpected move after he led the team to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in 25 years, and New York is looking for a new head coach.

Knicks have also considered Dallas Mavericks' head coach Jason Kidd, but as of today, the Knicks have not applied for an interview. However, sources told ESPN that if the Knicks requested, the Mavericks would refuse.

Jay Wright, who reportedly coached three Knicks starters while coaching Villanova, told New York last week that he was not interested in the position.
