According to multiple media reports, Manchester City has decided to withdraw from the battle against Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz. The 22-year-old German star was once regarded as one of the most talented offensive midfielders in European football, but Manchester City believes his transfer fee is "too high".
Previously, Manchester City had preliminary talks with Wilz's agent to discuss the possibility of his entry into the Premier League. At the same time, Liverpool and Bayern Munich also showed strong interest in the player, and the three parties fought fiercely at the negotiating table.
However, Leverkusen has marked the core player 150 million euros (about £126 million), and the overall cost may be close to €300 million (about £252 million) given the player's contract years and potential surcharges. This number has allowed Manchester City to choose to stop at the early stage of contact. At present, negotiations have "never made substantial progress" and the Blue Moon Legion has officially withdrawn from the competition.
Meanwhile, Manchester City's signing target this summer has turned to other directions. Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White became the focus of the team. In addition, they are in touch with AC Milan for midfielder Tijani Reinders, and there is a certain correlation between the two deals.
With Kevin De Bruyne about to leave the team, and Rodri's long-term injury this season has caused a decline in midfield stability, Manchester City is planning a comprehensive upgrade to the midfield. At this critical moment, the club hopes to introduce fresh blood to maintain the team's competitiveness in the coming seasons.
