Hours before the kickoff, riot police were working to isolate Spanish and British fans. Police used tear gas to a group of Chelsea fans, according to photos from the city center on Tuesday. Videos on social media also showed Chelsea and Betis fans clashing on the streets, with police intervening to stop both sides from throwing glasses and chairs, and then the police quickly controlled two groups of fans fighting. "The police responded immediately to the incident and prevented further escalation of the conflict and negative behavior." On Wednesday morning, the Wroclaw newspaper reported that the market square in the city center "looks like a battlefield" and that cleaning began at 4:30 a.m. Four Spanish fans were arrested on Tuesday for surveillance videos, and police are still searching for nine other people involved in the fight.
